Did you know today, September 13th, is Positive Thinking Day? I sure didn’t! My daughter got a new school calendar, and this was listed as one of the holidays. It turns out that the holiday was invented in 2003 by an American entrepreneur to remind people to celebrate the benefits of positive thinking.

I have had this blog brewing in my head for a while, and I almost wrecked the car when she told me about this day, and I said, “That’s the day we can launch our blog and vlog!”

So here we are! Our Launch Day is also National Positive Thinking Day!

There is so much negativity in the world right now. People assume the worst about each other. Quick opinions are uttered, and suddenly a fight breaks out on Facebook between friends and even total strangers. In my opinion, that’s no way to live life. What do we have to gain by doing that to each other?

What would happen if we presumed the best about someone first? This is called “presuming positive intent,” and it works beautifully. If there is a conflict, this is a better place to start. It takes the emotion out of the situation, and doesn’t start the conversation from a place of “I’m right, and you’re wrong.” It assumes the person is speaking from their heart and gives an opportunity to really listen to the other person.

Today, I encourage you to put aside petty differences, even big differences, and try to look at those around you through the lens of being more alike than different. We are all humans; we are all Image bearers. What would happen if, instead of controversial posts, negative opinions, and staunch political statements, we decided to start posting only positive things? For instance, talk about how much you enjoyed the sound of the rain as you were waking up today, the nice walk you took with your family yesterday, an upcoming event you are excited about, how a friend touched your heart this week, etc., etc., etc. There is always something to be grateful for. There is always something good to be seen, even during the bad.

Let’s celebrate today with some positive thinking! Just maybe, it will change more than today, it will change lives and the world.

We love this life!
