It’s no secret that I love Disney, so anything that reminds me of that magical place is welcome in my home. However, I also have a strong connection to memories based on smells, so Disney smells are even more welcome!

I realize it is not new information that smells can invoke strong memories, but of all the senses, the smell seems to be the most proficient to immediately and wholly transport me back to a particular time and place. I have been walking down a hallway as a 40-something adult and suddenly imagined my kindergarten classroom because some construction smell reminds me of the glue that was used by my art teacher. When I smell certain hand sanitizers now in this COVID-world, I am transported back to my elementary school’s nurse’s office and the alcohol swabs she used to use to clean the tools. Pumpkins take me back to the beloved tradition of carving jack-o-lanterns with my dad. Certain food-smells like frying hamburgers and onions take me back to my Aunt Lillian’s house, fried okra takes me back to my Grandmother’s house, chocolate cake takes me back to my Aunt Louise’s house, chicken soup takes me back to my dad’s cooking, and vanilla pudding reminds me of my mom and school lunches packed with care.

The connection that smells have with triggering memories and helping anxiety is well-documented in science and psychology journals, so I won’t pretend to be an expert here. You can google that info yourself!

This smell/memory connection is very real and strangely a very big deal to me. So when I found some candles that reminded me of “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” I pounced on them and immediately ordered three! I loved them so much, I went back later and ordered four more in different scents. If you love the smells of Disney, check out their website: Magic Candle Company. (This is not a sponsored post.)

My favorite candles are:

  • Beach Resort which smells like the Beach Club Resort
  • Banshee’s Flight which smells like the Flight of Passage ride in Pandora at Animal Kingdom
  • Flying Over Orange Groves which smells like the orange groves in Soarin’
  • Pirate Life which smells like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Magic Kingdom.
  • Hunny Pot which smells like honey and reminds us of the Winnie the Pooh ride at Magic Kingdom

Check out our video below where we reviewed several of these candle scents. Have fun dreaming of future Disney trips and reminiscing of fond trips from the past!
